Background: INTRODUCTION: A bitter election row has broken out in Israel over reports that the leader of the Israeli Opposition, Mr. Shimon Peres, has net prominent Arab leaders during a trip abroad. And the Palestine Liberation Organisation has condemned any such talks. The reports, on Israeli television on Thursday (19 March), claimed Mr. Peres had met King Hassan of Morocco in Rabat and earlier, in London, had met Prince Muhammed, a brother of King Hussein of Jordan. Both Morocco and Jordan have denied the story. Mr. Peres has neither confirmed nor denied it and says it was inspired by the Israeli government. In Beirut the Palestine Liberation Organisation claimed on Friday (20 March) that such talks were aimed at pushing Jordan into Camp David style negotiations. In Beirut the PLO's Chief of Information, Majed Abu Sharar, spoke to reporters.
