SYNOPSIS: Special guest at the opening of the meeting on Monday was Uganda's Minister of Works, Communications and Housing, Mr Zikusoka. Among the items on the agenda for this week's meeting is a survey of African marriage customs, the relationship of the Anglican Church to other churches, refugees in Africa, and women in the ministry.

Chairman of the conference is the Archbishop of Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi, the Most Reverend Erica Sabiiti. He invited the Ugandan Minister, Mr Zikusoka to address the meeting.

Mr Zikusoka said Uganda was happy to host such an important conference. He said it was appropriate that the meeting should be held in Kampala which, he said, was one of the few African states where the Government had formulated precise policies guaranteeing religious freedoms.
