Soviet composers, representatives of all nationalities of our country, gathers for their fifth Congress, which was held in the Great Kremlin Palace. Numerous guests, among them from foreign countries, attended the Congress. Over 600 delegates participated in the work of the Congress. Mazurov, Suslov, Demichev, Solomentsev are among the members of the Presidium. The Congress was opened by Hero of Socialist Labour composer Dmitri Shostakovich. Composer Aram Khachaturyan gave the floor for the report of the Board of the Union of Composers of the USSR to Tikhon Khrennikov, First Secretary of the Board. The report presented a full analysis of the achievements of composers in all fields of Soviet musical culture in the five year period since the fourth Congress. The speaker stressed that the Communist Party had always helped and is helping the composers, has called and is calling toe strengthen the ties of composers with working people, with modern Soviet life. The speaker assured the party, the Soviet government and all Soviet people that Soviet composers would put forward all their strength and energy to justify the hopes which are set on them. The fifth Congress of Composers of the USSR is a significant event in the cultural life of our country.
