Background: In the Ghanaian capital of Accra, Uganda has won the Ghana-Uganda Armed Forces Games for the first time. In the boxing events, both countries' Olympic hopefuls took part.

SYNOPSIS: At the El-Wak stadium in Accra, Musa Gariba of Ghana in the striped vest and pants and Ugandan champion, John Odiambo, in the Middleweight section.

With a right cross to the head Odiambo of Uganda once more asserted his superiority. After a first round knockdown Gariba took the count. Gariba's eye was cut and after a doctor's examination the event went to Odiammbo. It was Odiambo's second win over Gariba in three months.

The last bout for the night was between lightweights Mama Mohamed of Ghana in stripes, and Kiiza of Uganda. All the bouts were action packed.

A strong attack by Mohamed of Ghana which won him the match on points. Ghana won the boxing 17 points to 15. It was Mohamed's second recent win over Kiiza. Last March he outpointed him in Kampala.

In the last day's athletic events, the final of the 400 metres was one of the highlights.

Ghana's Olympic hopeful, Joseph Bandu was running in his favourite event. The competition from Rwasniuhanda of Uganda was not storing enough and Bandu won in 47.7 seconds.

In the men's 100 metres, fractions of a second counted most of all.

Dralu Williams of Uganda took the event in 10.7 seconds.

Later in the high jump event Uganda finished in first place. Akisoferi of Uganda cleared. Ghana's finalist failed to clear and it was lokong Moses who took the event with the bar at one point nine metres.

One of Uganda's five athletic wins for the day lifted them to overall success.
