  • Description

King Hussein and the Palestinian commando leader Yasser Arafat have signed another agreement in Amman regulating relations between the Jordanian authorities and Palestine resistance groups and paving the way for a return to civil rule. As a result of the agreement, signed on Tuesday, King Hussein has already ordered the release of about 15-hundred commandos captured in recent fighting with Royal forces.

The agreement was also signed by the Tunisian Premier, Bahi Ladgham, who was chairman of the meeting between the king and Yasser Arafat.

The text of the agreement, part of which was secret, was not made public. However, it does prohibit the carrying of arms by the fedayin in cities except in exceptional circumstances. Military displays and exercises are also banned. The agreement recognises Jordan as the main base for the Palestinian revolution, and states that all Jordanian popular and military energies will be mobilised towards the liberation of Palestine.
