  • Description

The Lebanese left-wing leader, Kamal Jumblatt, says there'll be no cease-fire in Lebanon while Syrian troops remain there. He arrived in Cairo on Monday (27 September) for talks with Egyptian President Anwar Sadat on hopes for peace in the 17-month-old civil war.

SYNOPSIS: After his arrival, Mr. Jumblatt went to the Foreign Ministry for talks with Ismail Fahmy, Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs -- on the left. The two men had two hours of discussions on the continuing troubles in Lebanon. One of the sticking points in previous peace plans has been Syria's presence in Lebanon, which Palestinians and other left-wing groups oppose. Mr. Jumblatt told newsmen how strongly he felt.
