THE CLIMBERS REACHED THE TOP OF THE 3,500-FOOT PEAK ON SUNDAY (25 NOVEMBER) AFTER SPENDING SIX NIGHTS ON THE GRANITE CLIFF. DURING FOUR NIGHTS THEY HUNG IN SLINGS SUSPENDED FROM STEEL SPIKES DRIVEN INTO THE GRANITE. THE OTHER TWO NIGHTS THEY SLEPT ON NARROW LEDGES... ONE OF WHICH WAS ONLY THREE FEET WIDE AND SEVEN FEET LONG.

EL CAPITAN'S CONQUERORS ARE 24-YEAR-OLD ED COOPER, OF SEATTLE, WASHINGTON, 24-YEAR-OLD JAMES BALDWIN, OF PRINCE RUPERT, BRITISH COLUMBIA IN CANADA, AND 23-YEAR-OLD GLEN DENNY, OF LIVINGSTON, CALIFORNIA. COOPER, A FREELANCE PHOTOGRAPHER, TOOK PICTURES OF THE CLIMB.
