  • Description

Kuwait celebrated its 14th National Day on Tuesday (25 February), with a big, colourful and spectacular display along Arabian Gulf Street.

It's been a highly successful 14 years of independence for the oil-rich state -- and never more so than during the last year or so when the price of oil has risen by as much as five times.

Tuesday's parade reflected the confidence of the tiny population in the future of their state, which -- on a per capita basis -- must now be numbered among the very richest in the world.

Even today, with oil production slackening, Kuwaitis can still count on revenue of between six and seven billion dollars in excess of domestic budgetary requirements.
