  • Description

Two fire engines of the Dungiven fire brigade, Northern Ireland, were destroyed in a fire started by IRA terrorists. The fire house building and other equipment was also damaged.

Drums of petrol and oil in the station were used to start the blaze. Firemen rushed from their homes and salvaged what fire-fighting apparatus they could. Over 10,000 pounds worth of damage was sustained.

Dungiven has been the target for several attacks during the last year. In 1957 the bus depot was burnt down by IRA men and they have been assaults on the local police station.

Immediately the fire was detected, police patrols set up road blocks and started investigations.

    No one was detained.
