M. Georges Seguy, Secretary-General of the biggest French union, the Confederation General du Travail (CGT), led a delegation which arrived in Brazzaville, People's Republic of the Congo, on Thursday (19 September).
The visitors were invited by the Confederation Syndicale Congolaise (CSC) for a week of talks with union leaders.
M. Seguy, head of the Communist-dominated CGT since 1967, was greeted at the airport by M. Anatole Kondo, Secretary-General of the CSC. The visit to the People's Republic of the Congo is part of a series of talks the French delegation has held in Africa to promote stronger links with African trades unions. The tour has taken them to Algeria, Guinea, the Ivory Coast and Cameroun. The delegation will leave Brazzaville on 25 September after a visit to the commercial centre of Pointe Noire.
