  • Description

A CROWD OF ABOUT TWO THOUSAND PEOPLE TOOK PART IN FURTHER DEMONSTRATIONS OUTSIDE THE UNITED STATES EMBASSY IN NEW DELHI YESTERDAY (MONDAY), IN PROTEST AGAINST AMERICAN AIR RAIDS IN NORTH VIETNAM. THE DEMONSTRATIONS HAVE BEEN ORGANISED BY THE PRO-CHINA WING OF THE INDIAN COMMUNIST PARTY.

THE DEMONSTRATORS CARRIED PLACARDS CALLING U.S. PRESIDENT JOHNSON A "LIAR" AND A "MURDERER". THE COMMUNIST FLAG, SHOWING THE HAMMER AND SICKLE, WAS ALSO MUCH IN EVIDENCE.

LARGE NUMBERS OF POLICE, INCLUDING STEEL-HELMETED RIOT SQUADS WERE CALLED OUT TO KEEP A CHECK ON THE DEMONSTRATIONS, BUT APART FROM A MINOR SCUFFLE WHEN A GROUP OF DEMONSTRATORS ATTEMPTED TO BREAK THROUGH THE POLICE CORDON IN FRONT OF THE EMBASSY, THE DEMONSTRATION WAS PEACEFUL.
