    In Liverpool on Monday (23 April) 56,000 football fans turned up to watch Liverpool beat Leeds 2-nil. The victory virtually assures Liverpool the league first division championship.

    Leeds lost many early opportunities in the match. Three good chances were lost within the space of a few minutes, Leeds players Lorimer and Jordan being unlucky with several shots at the Liverpool goal.

    During the second half Liverpool scored the first goal after 47 minutes of play. It was Cormack taking up an opportunity provided by Keegan, who scored. Keegan scored the second Liverpool goal just before full time.

    Meanwhile at Old Trafford, in Manchester, veteran Manchester United soccer star Bobby Charlton received a silver salver from the club Chairman Louis Edwards. Charlton played for Manchester United for 20 years, playing more than 600 league matches. Monday's game, against Sheffield United, was Charlton's last home game for his old club. 57,000 fans turned up to see Charlton's team crushed by 3 goals to nil.
