  • Description

The future of radio communications satellites and their effect on press and radio is being discussed at a four day conference of scientists and broadcasting executives from twenty countries which opened in Paris today (Monday).

The conference -- sponsored by UNESCO -- is likely to discuss direct transmission of news agency services by satellite and facsimile distribution of newspapers for publication around the world.

The broadcasting executives are also likely to discuss prospects for educational and cultural exchange programmes, questions and copyright and libel arising out of international broadcasts and whether private concerns will be able to afford the estimated 10-million dollars (more than GBP3-million sterling) needed to put a satellite into orbit.
