Kipchoge Keino, the 32-year-old policeman and veteran Olympic gold medallist at 1,500 and 3,000 metres, changed to 800 metres--and won easily in one minute 48.8 seconds.

But the Munich 400 metres gold medallist, John Akii-Bua of Uganda, did not adapt so well when he tackled the 110 metres hurdles, and came second to Kenya's Fatwell Kimayo.

Keino, who was triumphed so often in the fifteen hundred and three thousand metres, received the biggest applause of the day for his triumph in the shorter event.

Even in the twilight of his career he's still winning medals.

The women's four hundred metres, and another exciting finish.

    The same distance, for men.
