    THE MARCHERS WERE MEMBERS OF THE AUSTRIAN COMMUNIST PARTY, WHICH HAD ORGANISED THE "SOLIDARITY DEMONSTRATION FOR VIETNAM". THE SLOGAN FOR THE MARCH WAS "NEUTRAL AUSTRIA FOR PEACE AND FREEDOM IN VIETNAM".

    THE MARCHERS JAMMED VIENNA'S BUSY MARIAHILFERSTRASSE DURING THE EVENING RUSH-HOUR. POLICE TRIED TO FORCE THEM BACK ONTO THE PAVEMENTS, BUT FAILED, AND THE MARCHERS WENT ON TO THE HOTEL WIMBERGER.

    THERE, THEY HEARD A SPEECH BY THE SECRETARY OF THE AUSTRIAN COMMUNIST PARTY, HERR FRIEDL FURNBERGER. THERE WERE NO SERIOUS INCIDENTS.
