Background: At the United Nations on Wednesday (9 October), the permanent representative of Libya, Mr. Kamel Hassan Maghur, accused the industrial nations of starting a slander campaign against Arab oil-producing countries over oil prices.
Mr. Maghur said his country could not accept the claim that the future of the world depended on the prices of oil.
He said the anxiety of western industrial countries, which had for many years sapped the resources of developing countries, was based on the fear that the other countries might also put up prices of their commodities.
He said the industrial countries had established their economies by obtaining raw materials at the cheapest prices and selling their products at the highest prices.
