On the thirteenth day of competition of the 7th Asian Games in Teheran on Sunday (15th September), new Asian Games records were set in almost every event as the field and tack events entered their penultimate day.

Malaysia's Ishthiaq Mubarak just failed by under one metre to take the gold form China's Tsui Lin in the Men's 110 metre hurdles finals, Clocking 14.49 seconds against Lin's new record of 14.26 seconds.

Another new Games record was made by Singapore's Chee Swee Lee in the Women's 400 metre finals. Lee's time of 55.08 seconds upset the old Games record of 56.3 seconds set by M. Rajamani of Malaysia in 1966.

Japan's Nobuko Kawano took second place in the event with Juaidah Aman of Malaysia a close third with a time of 55.78.

The overall medal leader Japan had one of its few Sunday successes with a win in the Women's 400 metre relay with a new record time of 46.62 seconds. Practiced baton-passing enabled the team to beat the old record of 47.1 set in 1970 by a wide margin.
