John Fox lived up to his advance billings yesterday. His testimony, described as loaded with dynamite before he faced House investigators, turned out to be just that. The former Boston Publisher quoted Sherman Adams' friend Bernard Goldfine as having said: "Governor Adams is going to take car of it for me." "IT" was some trouble Goldfine was having with the Federal Trade Commission.
Fox also said Adams had an interest in Goldfine's properties...and that Adams had accepted money from Goldfine to send his children through school. At a surprise new conference last night, Adams took these charges up individually. And his denial was linked to criticism of the subcommittee for permitting Fox to talk in open session.
Fox returns to the witness chair this morning. He has said he can document his charges. And the committee is eager to see the proof.
