  • Description

The Bulgarian first division soccer team, Trakia, beat the Ghana champions, Accra Hearts of Oak, 1-0 in a friendly match in Accra on Monday (11 February). The Bulgarian skipper, Dvenmanbfar, who had been the inspiration of most of his side's attacks, scored the winning goal in the 65th minute.

In the first half Hearts' of Oak playing from right to left, showed some neat touches but lacked real punch and penetration of their attacks. Their best chance came when Polo collected a long pass from defence, held off three defenders and fired in a good shot which hit a post. Trakia made three changes in the team for the second half, which enabled them to count some threatening attacks.

Trakia met another first division club, Akotex, in Accra Stadium on Wednesday (13 February).

SYNOPSIS: The Bulgarian first Division soccer team, Trakia, playing in the dark shorts, kicked off in their match with Ghanaian champions, Accra Hearts of Oak, in Accra on Monday evening. The Bulgarian side, who are reckoned to be of equivalent standard to a Ghanaian first division team, are on a two-match tour of Ghana.

Hearts of Oak have an enthusiastic following in Ghana.

Much of the first half play was scrappy. Bulgaria had to adjust to the new conditions and Hearts of oak were without many of their leading players. Then Muhammed Polo raced on to a long pass from defence and, holding off three Bulgarian defenders, fired in a shot which grazed the post.

The crowd kept up the shout of 'Way Hearts'.

The Bulgarian made three substitutions at half-time and their attacks started to look a little more threatening. The Bulgarian skipper Dvemenbfer was the inspiration for most of their moves.

It was Dvemenbfer who scored the goal in the sixty-fifth minute which decided the match. After some frantic play in the Ghanaian goalmouth, Dvemenbfer raced in to kick the ball past goalkeeper Adansi from close range. Trakia met another club, Akotey, on Wednesday.
