Background: England managed to scramble to a face-saving two-all draw against Scotland in an under 23 International in Glasgow tonight (February 24).

It was a disappointing display by the England side, who had been expected to win. But is gave Scottish soccer hopes a boost, particularly as their senior international side has shown a lack of form recently.

The tenacious Scotland side dominated play in the first half. It was in this period they scored both of their goals. Kelly beat the England defence in the 28th minute and Robb scored a mere eight minutes later. Ironically, it was an error by Robb which allowed England to get an unexpected equalizer in the 77th minute and make the game a draw. Lloyd scored England's first goal in the 55th minute.

Scotland suffered a setback when their goalkeeper, Macrae, was injured in the 22nd minute, and was carried off. He suffered a suspected broken leg after hurling himself at the feet of an England player about to shoot for goal.

The England captain, Todd, had a disappointing game. He was recently transferred to first division Derby County for GBP170,000 (408,000 dollars) the second highest fee ever paid in Britain for a footballer.

England team manager Sir Alf Ramsey watched the game. He is looking for promising young players for his 1974 England World Cup squad. In the same fixture six years ago Sir Alf Ramsey found two brilliant England players in Nobby Stiles and Alan Ball.
