  • Description

The Royal Jordanian Army joined the Cameroonian Regiment in a Beating the Retreat tattoo on Amman airfield in the presence on King Hussein of Jordan on October 12. The Cameroonians are withdrawing from Jordan and returning to their base in Kenya. The music was provided by the Jordanian Army's bagpipe and brass bands.

Over 100 of the Cameroonians have already left for Akaba by air. They will sail to Aden and then on to Kenya, their base.

An airlift of 1,750 "Red Berries" -- British Paratroops -- from Amman to Cyprus will commence on October 25, and all British troops will be out of Jordan by the end of the month.

Hazzaa Paska al Majali, Minister of the Royal Court, issued a statement to the effect that the Jordanian Government does not believe there has been any change in the delicate and precarious Middle East situation that necessitated the arrival of British help and that it reserves the right to request such assistance again should conditions demand it.

He expressed the King's thanks for the promptness with which Britain flew in the troops and said that their presence has had a stabilizing effect on Jordan.
