SYNOPSIS: Delegates from twelve African countries and representatives of African nationalist movements attended the opening session of the week-long Pan-African Women's Conference in Brazzaville on Saturday.

The primary aim of the conference is to strive for ways of achieving the emancipation of African women in all fields. Josephine Bouanga, President of the Revolutionary Union of Brazzaville Women, opened the conference.

Mrs. Bouanga denounced the idea of a dialogue with South Africa, because of that country's continuing apartheid policies. The agenda for the conference includes working for ways to increase the participation of women in African society, as well as the elimination of racial discrimination, through the formation of a Unity of African Women.

Mrs. Bouanga suggested that the women can better their position in African society by striving for more education and professional training. The conference will continue until Friday.
