President Jaafar El-Nimeiry of Sudan on Monday (3 July) began a six-day official visit to Tanzania. With him he brought a one hundred man government delegation, and the visit is expected to greatly increase cooperation and contact between the two nations.
Among President Nimeiry's first engagements was a visit to the International Trade Fair marking the Tanzanian Festival of Sabasaba--the 18th anniversary of Tanzanian independence.
Before leaving Tanzania, President Nimeiry will visit the headquarters of the East African Community. this is the economic grouping of Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda which has its headquarters at Arusha in Northern Tanzania.
The Sudanese President had his first round of talks with President Nyerere the day after his arrival in Dar os Salaam. Little has been published about the talks, but they were expected to deal mainly with bilateral relations.
The talks began in a friendly atmosphere after President Nyerere praised the policies of the Sudanese Government--in particular the recent settlement which ended 16 years of conflict between the Arab-dominated north and the African region in Southern Sudan.

The visit that began with President Nimeiry inspecting a Tanzanian guard of honour provided opportunities for the two Presidents to discuss mutual questions--and the Sudanese leader brought with him a one hundred man government delegation to carry on talks at various levels.
Soon after arriving, President Nimeiry visited an International Trade Fair in Dar es Salaam. Tanzania's Minister of Commerce, Mr. Jamal greeted him.
President Nimeiry was invited to formally open the Fair by cutting a ribbon. Watching was President Nyerere and members of his government.
