President Nasser was on the tarmac to meet the Ethiopian monarch, who is on a tour which has taken him to Japan, the Soviet Union, Switzerland and France. It was the twelfth meeting between the two leaders - and the third since the June war of 1967.
They were due to discuss relations between their two countries, the Middle East situation and African issues during their talks at the Kubbeh Republican Palace.
Today (Saturday) they spent an hour discussing Ethiopian-Sudanese relations following the nationalisation of all foreign banks in the Sudan including the Ethiopian Commercial Bank. Present for this session was Deputy Premier and Vice-Chairman of Sudan's Revolutionary Command Council, Mr. Abubakr Awadallah.
The Emperor was scheduled to fly to Nairobi tomorrow (Sunday) for talks with President Jomo Kenyatta after attending Mass in Cairo's Old St Mark Cathedral.
