    THE MALAYSIAN PRIME MINISTER, TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN ARRIVED IN KUCHING, THE SARAWAK CAPITAL ON THURSDAY (AUGUST 19) TO ASSURE THE PEOPLE THAT THEY HAVE A BRIGHT AND SECURE PLACE IN THE FEDERATION DESPITE SINGAPORE'S SEPARATION.AMONG THE WELCOMERS WAS THE SARAWAK'S CHIEF MINISTER, MR.STEPHEN KALONG NINGKAN.

    SHORTLY AFTER HIS ARRIVAL, THE TUNKU VISITED BRITISH TROOPS BASED AT THE SEMENGO CAMP, TO THANK THEM FOR THE VERY GOOD WORK THEY ARE DOING IN THE CAUSE OF FREEDOM ADDING: "IF INDONESIA WINS, THEN THE COMMUNISTS WILL TAKE OVER LEAVING NOTHING FOR US."
    CONCLUDING, HE SAID BRITAIN, AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND HAD SAID THEY WOULD STAND BY MALAYSIA TO THE BITTER END AND HAD GIVEN ASSURANCES FOR KEEPING OPEN SEA AND AIR SPACES.

    LATER IN THE NIGHT, HE ATTENDED A RECEPTION GIVEN IN HIS HONOUR BY MR.NINGKAN.THREE HUNDRED GUESTS ATTENDED.

    IN HIS SPEECH, THE TUNKU EXPLAINED THE PURPOSE OF HIS VISIT AND THE SEPARATION OF SINGAPORE, AND ADDED THAT HE WAS CONFIDENT THAT SARAWAK AND SABAH WOULD BE IN MALAYSIA 'FOREVER AND EVER'.
