  • Description

President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto of Pakistan, returning home on Friday (July 27) from a two week European tour, at once had his first meeting with the special envoy of the Indian Prime Minister Mrs. Indira Gandhi.

The envoy, Mr. P.N. Haksar, had already been in Rawalpindi for several days at the head of an Indian delegation negotiating a settlement of humanitarian problems arising from the Indo-Pakistan war.

Mr. Haksar said his initial discussion with President Bhutto was "a good meeting". At stake during the talks is the release of 90,000 Pakistani prisoners of war and the dropping of threatened trials for 195 prisoners held in Dacca. India, in return, wants Pakistan to officially recognise the state of Bangladesh.
