  • Description

A most imaginative Swiss soldier-instructor, in cooperation with the Alpine Research Station at the Jungfraujoch Mountain, Switzerland, has perfected an infallible electronic device able to detect buried avalanche victims.

Tests recently made in the Swiss Alps with a human "guinea-pig", proved that this electronic "St. Bernard dog" is able to locate the exact underground position of a snow-fall casualty - thus giving far greater speed for rescue work than ever before.

This bell-shaped apparatus works by means of an amplifier system which locates heat waves and transforms them into acoustic waves. As soon as the warmth of a human being is detected - approximately 37? Centigrade or 98? Fahrenheit - the noise of the device increases and reaches a maximum when the victim is located exactly.
