    THE USS FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT HAS BECOME THE FIRST ATTACK AIRCRAFT CARRIER IN THE U.S. NAVY TO HAVE 125,000 LANDINGS ON HER FLIGHT DECK.

    THE HISTORIC EVENT OCCURRED AT 12.02 P.M., MARCH 3, 1964, WHILE THE CARRIER WAS OPERATING IN THE AREA OFF PUERTO RICO, AS LT.(J.G.) KENNETH FOX OF FIGHTER SQUADRON ELEVEN SET HIS FBU "CRUSADER" DOWN FOR HIS 79TH LANDING ON BOARD THE ROOSEVELT.

    LT.FOX RETURNED FROM A SIDEWINDER MISSILE PRACTICE FIRING, UNAWARE THAT HE WOULD BE THE PILOT TO MAKE THE 125,000TH LANDING. THE EVENT WAS MARKED BY A CAKE-CUTTING CEREMONY ON THE FLIGHT DECK, AT WHICH THE YOUNG PILOT WAS CONGRATULATED BY THE SHIP'S COMMANDING OFFICER.
