Background: Villagers north of Tyre, Lebanon, have been counting the cost, and burying the dead, from Israeli attacks on refugee camps on Tuesday (5 August).
Scores of huts and houses were destroyed in the refugee camp at Burghuliyeh when six Israeli warplanes launched a lunchtime raid. At least six people died in the raid, including a woman and two children.
Israeli gunboats had landed a force before dawn estimated at between 200 and 300 men on the cost just north of Tyre. Five Palestinian commandoes, four Lebanese Army officers and a child died in the fighting and the shelling form the sea.
The Army officers, all Lieutenants died when the Israeli gunboats shelled Tyre military barracks. Shells hit the officers club.
The funeral took place in Beirut on Tuesday afternoon. Many officers led by the Lebanese Commander in Chief, General Iskandar Ghanem joined with family mourners.
Later Palestinian commandoes retaliated by shelling the Israeli township of Kiryhat Shmoneh.
