Background: Visnews cameras at Nairobi Airport, Kenya, March 7, filmed Mr. John Stonehouse 33 year old Labour M.P. for Wednesbury, on his arrival from Dar-es-Salaam. Tanganyika, where he has been staying since his deportation from Lusaka, Northern Rhodesian capital.

To the assembled press Mr. Stonehouse said he would stay in Kenya for about ten days, and had received permission to visit prisons and detention camps. It has since announced that this permission has been rescinded. A Kenya government spokesman said that when Mr. Stonehouse was originally told that an opportunity would be given him to visit Kenya prison the Government had the impression that he was visiting the Colony purely in his capacity as Member of Parliament. It has since become clear that Mr. Stonehouse was working as a journalist in the employ of a British newspaper.

During a five-week 'fact finding tour' of the Central African Federation, Mr. Stonehouse was served with an expulsion order Feb 28 by the office of the Federal Premier, Sir Roy Welensky. Federal government Minister for Home Affairs, Sir Malcom Barrows, said that Mr. Stonehouse's attitude was " provocative and insolent" following speeches he made to the recently banned African National Congress in Salisbury and Bulawayo, in which he said " Lift your heads high. Act as if the country belongs to you ...."
Latest reports from Nyasaland tell of an ominous pattern of violence at more than 400 African - improvised road blocks in the Northern Province. Clashes with security forces and damage to Europeans and their property are fast becoming common place. Latest trends indicate that the African reaction is being channelled into disciplined resistance instead of formless rioting.
