    THE BULGARIAN MIG FIGHTER PILOT, SUB-LIEUTENANT MILUSH SOLAKOV, WHO CRASHED NEAR A NATO BASE IN BARI, SOUTH-EAST ITALY LAST JANUARY, WAS HANDED OVER TO THE BULGARIAN LEGATION IN ROME ON FRIDAY AFTER BEING ACQUITTED OF ESPIONAGE CHARGES.

    SOLAKO WAS RELEASED FROM PRISON IN BARI ON THURSDAY NIGHT AND WAS TAKE BY TRAIN TO ROME WHERE HE WAS HANDED OVER TO MEMBERS OF THE LEGATION. SHORTLY AFTER HIS ARRIVAL AT THE LEGATION HE MET MEMBERS OF THE PRESS.

    EARLIER ON THURSDAY, AN ITALIAN MAGISTRATE IN BARI HAD RULED THAT THE ESPIONAGE PROCEEDINGS AGAINST HIM SHOULD BE DROPPED. LAST JANUARY, BULGARIA SENT A NOTE TO ITALY SAYING SOLAKOV WAS AN INEXPERIENCED PILOT WHO WAS NOT ON A MILITARY MISSION, BUT HAD LOST HIS WAY ON A TRAINING FLIGHT.

    (IT WAS ON JANUARY 20, 1962, THAT SOLAKOV CRASH-LANDED IN A RUSSIAN-BUILT MIG FIGHTER OF THE BULGARIAN AIR FORCE. HE IMMEDIATELY ASKED TO BE REPATRIATED. HE WAS CHARGED WITH ESPIONAGE ON FEBRUARY 1.)
