Background: Funeral services were held in Rome yesterday (17 June) for Signor Arturo Michelini who died on Sunday (15 June). He was leader of Italy's neo-Fascist party, the Italian Social Movement.
Signor Michelini died in hospital after being rushed from the holiday Island of Ponza with a brain tumor. Surgeons fought to save his life using heart massage and oxygen treatment but he died without regaining consciousness.
Yesterday thousands of his supporters -- including members of the party's youth movement -- attended funeral services. Some of Italy's senior politicians also took part in the Roman Catholic service including Italy's ex-Prime Minister Signor Aldo Moro.
Signor Michelini's party has 24 members in the 630-seat Chamber of Deputies and 13 representatives in the 322-seat Senate.
