    Background: Following the Uruguayan Government's concerted attack on the Tupamaro guerrilla movement, there are indications that the leadership of the Tupamaros might have been crushed and the movement weakened, if not entirely disbanded. As a result, the rightwing groups which have been helping the Government fight the Tupamaros, took to the streets on Sunday (October 22) in a celebration march.

    The main groups of demonstrators belonged to the "Juventued Uruguaya de Pie" (JUP) - which translated means Uruguayan Youth-Stand Up. The demonstration was entitled Victory Parade of October 22, and 20,000 people came from all over the tiny South American country to take part in it.
