    THE WINNING DOG WAS FOUR-YEAR-OLD CHAMPION, FENTON OF KENWOOD. IT HAS BEEN ESTIMATED THAT THE NEW TITLE HAS TREBLED THE DOG'S VALUE TO GBP1,500.

    FOUR DOGS TOOK PART IN THE FINAL LINE-UP BEFORE THE JUDGES -- A BEAGLE, A MALTESE TERRIER, A GOLDEN RETRIEVER, AND THE ALSATIAN.

    A SPOKESMAN FOR THE SHOW'S ORGANISERS SAID THAT ALSATIANS ARE NOW SECOND IN POPULARITY TO POODLES AND INCREASING IN FAVOUR RAPIDLY.

    THIS YEAR, THE FAMOUS SHOW WAS SEEN BY RECORD CROWDS OF OVERSEAS BUYERS, AND WHEN IT HAD CLOSED ORDERS FOR EXPORT, WORTH MORE THAN GBP10,000, HAD BEEN TAKEN.
