    Wu Ki-chang, the famous Chinese model cotton grower, comes from a family of poor farm hands who had worked for landlords for three generations before liberation. As master of the country after liberation he learned to read and write. Wu Ki-chang is an ardent reader of Chairman Mao's works from which he has got a good understanding of why farm_work is also a part of the revolution. In 1963 he was elected as a deputy to the National People's Congress.

    Assisted by scientific workers in his research and experiments, Wu Ki-chang has successfully worked out an 8-point method of cultivating cotton comprising techniques of sowing, seedling replenishment, field management, etc. The new method has raised yield by 20%.

    Always looking for new ways to grow cotton, Wu Ki-chang never hesitates to pass his knowledge to visitors. He pays particular attention to teaching the younger generation. The model cotton grower is also the leader of a production brigade. Thanks to his leadership, this brigade has persisted in the path of collectivization and has made big progress in production. In 1963, the brigades' per hectare cotton yield was 1,100 kilogrammes.
