Background: A traditionally dressed band of musicians were at Havana Airport Dec 27 to welcome a party of tourists from Russia, and a ballet company from Yugoslavia.
Outstanding among the Russian visitors was Turab Normukhamedov, President of the Lenin Co-operative. Wearing a Hero of Work gold medal - one of Russia's highest industrial awards - he created great amusement when he tried his hand with the Maraccas, an instrument constructed from a large bean pod and filled with dried seeds.
After passing through customs and checking in at their hotel, the tourists - including art critics, professors of philosophy, technical engineers, film producers, radio announcers, and economists - toured the sights of the Cuban capital, and showed great interest in the state of Jose Martin - "The Cuban Apostle" a leader of the Cubans fight for independence from Spanish rule.
