    THERE ARE MORE THAN 700 BOATS FROM 20 COUNTRIES TO BE SEEN AT THE INTERNATIONAL BOAT SHOW WHICH OPENED IN HAMBURG TODAY.

    EAST GERMANY WAS REPRESENTED AT THE SHOW BY A YACHT, THE "JOLLYCRUISER", THAT CARRIES ITS OWN SMALL DINGHY, AND BY SEVERAL CRUISERS. ITALY ALSO SENT YACHTS TO HAMBURG, AND A SPEEDBOAT FOR WATER SPORTS ON RIVERS AND LAKES. FROM JAPAN THERE WAS A NEW OUTBOARD MOTOR, AND DENMARK, SHOWING AT HAMBURG FOR THE FIRST TIME, HAD A MOTOR CRUISER, THE "KARONET", ON ITS STAND.

    FROM FINLAND CAME A LIGHTWEIGHT CRUISER BUILT IN ALUMINIUM AND POWERED BY AN OUTBOARD MOTOR WITH A PROTECTIVE GUARD OVER THE PROPELLOR. THERE WAS MORE SCANDINAVIAN COMFORT ABOARD A CABIN CRUISER, THE "NORDIC", BUILT IN SWEDEN FROM POLYESTER.

    JAMES BOND WAS REPRESENTED BY A SPEEDBOAT CALLED "FIREBALL", AND AMERICA ALSO SHOWED SPEEDBOATS. A WEST GERMAN COMPANY EXHIBITED AUTOMATICALLY INFLATING LIFE RAFTS. THE COVERED RAFTS CAN CARRY FROM FOUR TO 25 PEOPLE AND TAKE ONLY 30 SECONDS TO INFLATE FULLY.

    RUSSIA, TAKING PART IN THE HAMBURG EXHIBITION FOR THE FIRST TIME, SENT A HYDROFOIL BOAT TO THE SHOW. IT CAN CARRY SIX PASSENGERS AND HAS A LIGHT, STRONG DURALUMINIUM HULL. THE OPEN COCKPIT IS WELL EQUIPPED WITH GADGETS AND NAVIGATION AIDS, INCLUDING A RADIO.

    BRITAIN HAD A KATAMARAN AT THE SHOW. THE BIGGEST BOAT WAS "LADY LIZZIE", A LUXURIOUS CABIN CRUISER POWERED BY TWO DIESEL ENGINES. A PRETTY GIRL WAS AT THE SHOW TO TRY OUT A SKIFF THAT CAN BE FOLDED TO THE SIZE OF A SMALL SHOULDER BAG.
