    A STAMP EXPO, WHICH SHOWS THE HISTORY OF A NUMBER OF AFRICAN COUNTRIES AS FAR BACK AS 70 YEARS. HAS BEEN OPENED IN THE IVORY COAST CAPITAL OF ABIDJAN. IT IS THE FIRST EXHIBITION OF ITS KIND HELD IN THE CITY.

    THE EXPO, WHICH IS CALLED PHILEXAFRICANS 1969, IS BEING HELD UNDER THE AUSPICES OF THE FORMER FRENCH-AFRICAN COLONIES, WITH THE ADDITION OF RUANDA, FORMING THE UNION AFRO-MALAGASHE DES POSTES ET TELECOMMUNICATIONS.

    MOST OF THE STAMPS ARE MODERN, BUT SOME VALUABLE COLLECTIONS OWNED BY PRIVATE INDIVIDUALS HAVE BEEN MADE AVAILABLE FOR THE EXHIBITION.

    THE IVORY COAST PRESIDENT, M. HOUPHOUET-BOIGNY, WAS REPRESENTED AT THE OPENING ON FRIDAY (14 FEBRUARY) BY THE MINISTER OF STATE, M. AUGUST DENISE, WITH THE MINISTER OF POSTS AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS, M. SOULEYMANE CISSOKO.

    THE DIPLOMATIC CORPS ALSO WAS REPRESENTED.

    AMONG THE STAMPS ON SHOW IS A GROUP OF FOUR, DEPICTING MAHATMA GANDHI, MARTIN LUTHER KING, JOHN F. KENNEDY AND ROBERT F. KENNEDY, AND ENTITLED "ADVOCATES NON-VIOLENCE". THE SERIES WAS ISSUED BY CAMEROUN.
