  • Description

Wilson Fittipaldi, brother of Grand Prix World Champion, Emerson Fittipaldi, was still having some teething troubles with his new Formula I racing car in trials at Sao Paulo, Brazil, last Wednesday (20 November). The car stalled after only about four test laps around the Interlagos circuit and had to be pushed into the pits by its racing crew.

The new car developed by the Fittipaldi brothers, is the first Formula I car to be designed and built in Brazil and he is racing against time to have it ready for the Argentine Grand Prix to be held in Buenos Aires next January. The main innovation of the Fittipaldi car is its sleek aerodynamic design which is expected to make it faster than its competitors down the straight, otherwise it is fairly conventional with a standard racing engine and transmission unit.

The Fittipaldi brothers have become the new national folk heroes of Brazil since the retirement of the Brazilian soccer star, Pole.

SYNOPSIS: Wilson Fittipaldi, brother of Grand Prix World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi, continued to test their new Formula one racing car at the Interlagos circuit in Sao Paulo, Brazil, last Wednesday.

It has been a long-time dream of Wilson and Emerson Fittipaldi to build a Formula one racing car, and their's is the first to be designed and built in Brazil. Its main advantage over other cars lies in its sleek aerodynamic design which should give it an advantage in speed down the straight. Mechanically, the car is fairly standard.

The design of the new car has been influenced by the experience Emerson Fittipaldi has gained as World Champion, and it is sponsored by a giant Brazilian sugar exporting cooperative. On the two days before Wednesday's test the car had proved something of a trial with a faulty engine.

The Fittipaldi brothers hope to race two of the new cars in the Argentine Grand Prix due to be held in Buenos Aires next January. The Grand Prix is the first on the 1975 Formula one calendar. Though unexpected delays in testing have put them way behind in their test plans, Wilson Fittipaldi is convinced that the worst is now over and that the cars will race in Buenos Aires as scheduled.

After the final tests on the circuit, Wilson Fittipaldi will test the car's aerodynamic design at a Brazilian Government aircraft plant. Then all will be ready for the Argentine Grand Prix. The retirement of the great footballer Pele, has made the Fittipaldi brothers the new folk heroes of Brazil.
