    British Prime Minister, Harold Wilson, and Icelandic Prime Minister, Gear Hallgrimsson, met in the British capital, London, for a crucial session in their Cod War talks on Monday (26 January).

    The talks, which started last Saturday (23 January) were held at the British leader' s official residence, Number 10 Downing Street.

    The summit talks are aimed at finding a basis for negotiations to settle the bitter two-month old quarrel over territorial fishing rights off the coast of Iceland.

    On Sunday (24 January) Mr. Hallgrimsson met British Foreign Secretary, James Callaghan, in preparation for Monday's talks with the British leader.

    On Monday the two Prime Ministers examined reports from scientists and legal experts on vital questions concerning ways of conserving cod stocks around Iceland's coast - a key issue of the talks.

    Mr. Wilson was assisted a the talks by Mr. Callaghan and Agriculture Minister, Mr. Fred Peart. Mr. Hallgrimsson's delegation included Mr. Thorarinn Thorarinsson, Chairman of the Icelandic Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee.
