    THE PILOT OF THE BRITISH HOVERCRAFT WHICH CRASHED WHILE ON AN EXHIBITION RUN IN THE IVORY COAST SAYS THE ACCIDENT COULD BE PUT DOWN TO THE COST OF EXPERIMENTATION. COMMANDER LAMB SAID THE MAIN PURPOSE OF THE IVORY COAST DEMONSTRATIONS WAS TO TEST THE VEHICLE UNDER ATLANTIC OCEAN CONDITIONS.

    COMMANDER LAMB SAID THE CRAFT WAS APPROACHING THE BEACH NEAR ABIDJAN WHEN IT FELL INTO AN UNUSUAL TROUGH. THE VEHICLE WAS POUNDED BY THE SURF BREAKING BEHIND THE TROUGH AND THE ENGINES PUT OUT OF ORDER. AFTER THAT THE CRAFT BROKE UP.

    THE COMMANDER AND A PASSENGER WERE INJURED IN THE ACCIDENT.
