    Representative from nine Central African countries have been discussing ways of overcoming the problems preventing use of the Panafrican telecommunications network (PANAFTEL) for television and radio programmes. The discussion took place at the regional meeting of the network which opened in Kinshasa, Zaire, on Tuesday (28 October).

    Another of the delegates' tasks was to try to provide automatic connections between countries across the wide areas of Central Africa.

    The International Telecommunications Union, the African Development Bank and the Organisation of African Unity also sent representatives to the meeting which took place in Zaire's Foreign Affairs building.

    Zaire's Commissioner of State, Colonel Wabali addressed the delegates on the opening morning. The three day meeting ended on Thursday (30 October).
