Background: I. Novikov, of Russia, who was fourth in the Olympic Modern Pentathlon at Melbourne last year retained the world modern pentathlon championship in Stockholm after the final event - cross country running - in Stockholm on October 30.
Russia Also won the team event, for Novikov's compatriots, A. Tarassov and N. Tatarinov, were second and third respectively in overall placings.
Przybylski of Poland won the 4,000 metres cross-country event in 14 minutes 26.8 seconds with Tarassov second and Britain's Sgt D. Cobley, third.
