  • Description

The Senegal Foreign Minister, Assane Seck, addressed the united nations General Assembly on Monday (6 October) and announced a special convention to discuss "Namibia and Human Rights".

At the present time Namibia (South West Africa) is administered by the South African Government.

Mr. Seck said Sough Africa had no right to claim control over South West Africa and should comply with a ruling handed down by the International Court of Justice in 1971 to respect "the integrity of Namibia".

The Minister also condemned moves by Rhodesia to "indefinitely delay" the implementation of "one man one vote" for the black population of Rhodesia.

The conference on South West Africa will be held in Dakar in January 1976.

Mr. Seck added that though Senegal was ready to fight "weapons in hand" to support those liberation movements in Africa, it would encourage the same movements to "negotiate with the enemy".
