  • Description

One of the United States' top powerboat regattas, the Windsor Canadian National Sweepstakes, was run in Red Bank, New Jersey on Sunday (17 August).

Attention was focused primarily on the Jersey Speed Skiff Class on the Navasink River, as talented drivers competed for world championship honours. Despite an exciting race, the result was decided by officials, who ruled that seven boats had jumped the starter's gun. David Greenlaw of Philadelphia took first place. National high points champion Connie Cottrell was among those drivers disqualified.

Another race also drew wide attention....the Governor's Cup for 2.5 litre hydro-planes. Jack Van Deman, of Oceanport and George Baker of Daytona beach battled it out during the race, but Van Deman eventually took the honours with a comfortable margin.
