Background: One of Europes oldest-established ski-racing events, the Arlberg-Kandahar competition opened here at St. Anton, Austria, today, with the women's downhill race. This particular event is only part of the competition which is adjudged on an aggregate basis - taking in, also, the Slalom. There were 52 entries from several countries and though the 2.1 metre course (dropping 56 metres) was somewhat soft, it was generally in good condition and the times - under the circumstances - were very good. French girl, Daniele Telinge (Number 2) won the event with Italy's Carla Marchelli second.
