  • Description

The U.S. Army and Air Force recently co-operated to hold a large-scale exercise in western United States designed to test American forces' ability to airlift troops and equipment long distances in the shortest possible time.

More than 20,000 troops and 3,000 Air Force personnel were involved.

The Army's mythical scene for the training exercise was the country of "Blissland" which had been invaded by "Myton" forces.

A Joint Task Force was formed and along with their tanks, helicopters and other equipment, was airlifted into Texas and New Mexico.

Joint exercises such as this -- which was called Gallant Shield '75 -- provide an operational environment to test current and newly-developed methods of deploying and using modern weapons and troops.
