April 16th, 1958, and Princess Margrethe, much loved heir to the throne of Denmark, is 18 year old and comes of age. To mark this double occasion presents for the young girl have poured in not only from Denmark, but from the whole of Scandinavia - a car from Sweden, a gold bracelet from Norway, etc. Perhaps the most surprising gift of all is a farm near Ringsted on Sjaelland.
Hundreds of tourists have visited this farm since the gift was announced, and how the local police have had to forbid the parking of motor cars on the road which passes nearby.
Today, the joyous Princess made her first visit to her new gift, and obviously enjoyed her walk around. NORDGAARD, a small farm by international standards, is nearly fourteen acres and produces enough food for 250 people a year. Thus, 170 people abroad will receive their butter, egg, and bacon from the farm of the Heiress Presumptive of Denmark. Princess margrethe is to chose the furnishing of this white-washed, red-tiled farmhouse herself, and will supervise the management of the 30 cows, 90 pigs, 2 tractors, and one saddle horse it contains.
Nordgaard is a gift to the Princess from the Danish Farmers Organisation.
