  • Description

Masterpieces of African sculpture, including several works from the collection of President Leopold Senghor of Senegal, are currently drawing appreciative crowds at the French town of Saint-Maur, just outside Paris.

The exhibition results from the twinning of Saint-Maur with the towns of Rimini in Italy and Ziguinchor in Senegal.

The African sculptures don't simply come from Senegal. Rimini has one of the richest collections of primitive art in Europe, and it has sent its entire collection of works of art from Mali.

The display sets out to instruct visitors on the history of African art from its earliest beginnings, five centuries B.C., to the present day.

Included in the exhibition are masks, statues, woodcarvings, bas-reliefs and pottery.
