    POPE PAUL THE SIXTH, WHO IS 69, RECEIVED THE TRIPLE CROWN THAT SYMBOLISES LEADERSHIP OF THE WORLD'S ROMAN CATHOLIC COMMUNITY AFTER THE DEATH IN 1963 OF POPE JOHN THE TWENTY-THIRD.

    BEFORE HE WAS ELECTED POPE BY A SECRET BALLOT OF CARDINALS, POPE WAS ARCHBISHOP ON MILAN. ONE OF HIS FIRST UNDERTAKINGS AFTER ASCENDING THE THRONE WAS TO MAKE AN HISTORIC PILGRIMAGE TO THE HOLY LAND. SINCE THEN HE HAS TRAVELLED WIDELY THROUGHOUT THE WORLD.

    RECENTLY POPE PAUL SET UP A SPECIAL COMMISSION TO INVESTIGATE THE CASE FOR BEATIFYING POPE PAUL, THE FIRST STEP TOWARDS DECLARING HIM A SAINT.
